Short answer: October is the month the coast wakes up. Days around 25°C, water around 20°C, the first consistent Atlantic swells after the small summer, and far fewer people on the beach than in August or at Christmas. A week at The Pearl in October costs the same as any other week: from €420 all-inclusive for surf, from €510 with daily yoga.
We run two surf houses in Tamraght, a village on the coast just south of Taghazout, and October is the month our own guests most often ask about. Here is what we tell them.
The three numbers
| October in Tamraght | |
|---|---|
| Air, daytime | about 25°C, dropping to about 15°C at night |
| Water | about 20°C, a 3/2 wetsuit is comfortable, wetsuits are included |
| Sunset | a little before 19:00 at the start of the month, around 18:30 by the end |
Those are long-run averages for the Agadir coast, not a promise for one particular day. What they mean in practice: T-shirt weather on the beach, a jumper on the rooftop after dark, and a wetsuit in the water that you stop noticing after five minutes.
The waves
Summer on this coast is small. From October the Atlantic starts sending the swells that made Taghazout famous, and they keep coming through the winter. Early October can still have small days; by the second half of the month the beach breaks around Tamraght are working most mornings.
For a beginner that is close to ideal. The beach breaks give long, forgiving whitewater rides, and on the bigger days the coach simply picks a more sheltered spot. Improvers get the first proper point-break sessions of the season. The famous winter days, when the points are firing and busy, come later, in December and January.
Two hours of coached surf a day plus two hours of supervised free surf is the rhythm here. In October the coach usually chooses the morning tide and the group is back on the roof for lunch before the afternoon wind arrives.
The crowd
October is quieter than the school-holiday summer and quieter than the Christmas peak. Line-ups at the beginner spots have space, the village is relaxed, and our houses are usually a mix of solo travellers from Germany, the UK, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. About 70% of our guests arrive alone; the long table takes care of the rest.
What a week costs in October
There is no seasonal pricing at The Pearl. The week is the same price whether you come in October, at Christmas or in March.
| Week | Dorm | Twin | Double | Private |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Surf Reset, surf only, 7 days | €420 | €450 | €510 | €550 |
| The Full Reset, surf + daily sunset yoga, 7 days | €510 | €550 | €610 | €630 |
Included: your room, three meals a day, two hours of coaching and two hours of supervised surf daily, boards and wetsuits, and airport pickup from Agadir. Not included: flights, insurance and personal spending. A €100 deposit per guest holds your spot, with a full refund up to 30 days before arrival, and free date changes 30 or more days out.
If a full week does not fit, The Quick Escape runs 3 to 5 nights from €225.
What to pack for October
A 3/2 wetsuit is on the house, so leave yours at home unless you love it. Bring a warm layer for the rooftop after sunset, reef-safe sunscreen, and whatever you would pack for a 25°C day by the sea. A full list is in our packing guide.
Getting here
Agadir Al Massira airport is about 40 minutes from the house and pickup is included. Most guests fly in on a Saturday or Sunday; the week runs 7 days, 6 nights. Our airport guide covers the details.
Quick answers
- Is October good for a first surf trip to Morocco?
- Yes. Warm days, mild water, forgiving beach breaks and a quieter coast than the winter peak. Most of our October guests are beginners or first-week improvers.
- Do I need a wetsuit in October?
- The water is around 20°C, so most people wear a 3/2. It is included with the week, along with the board.
- Is it too crowded?
- No. The crowds arrive with the school holidays in December and February. October line-ups have room, especially at the beginner spots.
- When do October dates open?
- They are open now. Pick a week on the booking page; €100 holds it and you can change dates for free up to 30 days before arrival.
