Surfing in Morocco in February: one of the most consistent months of the winter

By The Pearl team, Tamraght · 6 min read · Updated 10 Sept 2026

Short answer: February sits in the middle of the winter's most consistent swell window, December to February. Swell after swell out of the North Atlantic, the points around Taghazout working most often, days around 20°C and water around 17°C in a 4/3 that comes with the week. The price does not move with the season: a surf week starts at €420 (dorm), a surf and yoga week at €510 (dorm), all-inclusive.

We run two surf houses in Tamraght, a few minutes south of Taghazout. The usual group is 12 a week, mixed levels, and this is what February looks like from the house.

The three numbers

February in Tamraght
Air, daytimeabout 20°C, with nights about 8 to 10°C
Waterabout 17°C, a 4/3 wetsuit, included with the week
Daylightafter dark by seven; the sessions are in the morning

Long-run averages for the Agadir coast, not a forecast for your week. On the ground: a cool start, sun on the beach by the end of the first session, and a proper drop once the sun goes.

The waves

January is remembered for its biggest swells; February for its consistency. The winter lows keep tracking across the Atlantic and each one sends a pulse down to this coast, so the calendar reads as swell, short gap, swell. December to February is when the points work most often, and February is the last full month of that window.

For an intermediate that means point-break sessions most mornings: long rights, a proper wall to work on, the same spot on more than one swell in a single week. If you already stand up and turn, February is the honest recommendation.

For a beginner it still works, with one difference from autumn. The beach breaks below Tamraght are the classroom, as they are all year, but there are more days in February when the swell is too big for a first-week group at the open beach and the coach chooses a sheltered corner of the bay instead. The coach reads the forecast and the tide the evening before. Two hours of coached surf plus two hours of supervised free surf a day is the rhythm, whatever the month.

The crowd

February is not one crowd; it is three. The first week is quiet: the Christmas visitors have long gone and the people in the water came for the surf. Then the school half-term weeks start across Europe and the middle of the month fills with families and groups, in the villages and at the better-known line-ups. The last week settles down again.

For the fewest people in the water, book the first or the last week. If half-term is your only window, come anyway: a coached group in a van goes where the space is. About 70% of our guests arrive alone, and the long table at dinner does the rest.

What a week costs in February

A week in February costs exactly what it costs in any other month. There is no winter supplement and no half-term supplement.

Which winter month?

January, February and March share the 4/3 and the 17°C water; the differences are in the swell. January has the same big swells with more variation week to week and quieter line-ups once the New Year visitors have left. February is the last month inside the December to February window and the one intermediates should choose. March is a touch warmer by day, about 22°C, with the first small, glassy spring mornings, the softer choice for a first week. For warmer water and a 3/2, look back to October and November.

What to pack for February

The 4/3 is ours, so leave your wetsuit at home. What you do need is warm evening clothing: a fleece or hoodie, long trousers and a hat, because nights around 8 to 10°C feel cold after a 20°C afternoon. Add reef-safe sunscreen, swimwear for under the suit and flip-flops; everything else is on our packing list.

Getting here

You fly into Agadir Al Massira, about 40 minutes by road from the house, and on both week packages we collect you there at no extra cost. A standard week is 7 days and 6 nights. Our airport guide covers the transfer, and the rest is on our FAQ page.

Quick answers

Is February a good month to surf in Morocco?
Yes. It sits inside the December to February window, when the Atlantic sends swell after swell and the points work most often. Days are about 20°C and the water about 17°C.
Is the water cold in February?
About 17°C, which is a 4/3 wetsuit, included with every package. Nights are the cold part, about 8 to 10°C, so pack for the rooftop rather than the water.
Can a beginner learn to surf in Morocco in February?
Yes. Coaching happens on the beach breaks, and on the bigger days the coach chooses a sheltered corner of the bay. The group moves to the points only when people are ready.
When is February busiest?
The middle of the month, when the European school half-term weeks bring families and groups to the coast. The first and last weeks are the quiet ones.
Are February dates open?
Yes. Choose a week on the booking page. A €100 deposit per guest holds it, with a full refund up to 30 days before arrival and free date changes 30 or more days out.
