Short answer: April is the handover. The winter run tapers through the month and what replaces it is smaller, cleaner and more consistent: light morning winds, glassy early sessions, the kind of wave a first week is built on, with the odd late pulse for improvers. Days around 23°C, nights around 13°C, water still 17 to 18°C, so the wetsuit stays on and stays included. The Easter holidays spill into the first half of April and make it the busiest stretch of the spring; after them the coast empties out. A week at The Pearl costs the same as in any other month: from €420 (dorm) for surf, from €510 (dorm) with daily yoga.
We run two surf houses, Blue Pearl and White Pearl, in Tamraght, a village just south of Taghazout, and April is a month we recommend to first-timers more often than people expect. Here is the honest version.
The three numbers
| April in Tamraght | |
|---|---|
| Air, daytime | about 23°C, nights about 13°C |
| Water | about 17 to 18°C, a 3/2 wetsuit most of the month, sometimes still a 4/3 early on, both included |
| Daylight | longer than in March; the sun sets around seven |
Agadir coast averages, not a forecast for your week. In practice: a warm beach by late morning, a light layer once the sun goes, and water that lags a month or two behind the air. The sea warms slowly from here, so April is still a full wetsuit, and whichever thickness the morning calls for is on the house.
The waves
December to February bring the biggest and most consistent swells of the year, March keeps regular swell with the first glassy days in between, and April is where the winter run lets go. The Atlantic still sends the occasional pulse, more often early in the month than late, and on those days improvers get a proper wall to work on. Between them, and increasingly as the weeks pass, the coast settles into spring: smaller waves, lighter morning winds, glassy early sessions, and a consistency mid-winter rarely offers, because there is less waiting for swell and less sitting out swell that is too big.
For a first week that is the better deal. Smaller, cleaner waves mean more attempts in a session, and more attempts are how people learn to surf. When a late pulse does arrive, coaching happens on the sandy beach breaks below Tamraght and the more confident guests move with the coach to wherever is lining up. Two hours of coached surf plus two hours of supervised free surf a day, with the spot chosen each morning for the tide and the group; nobody can promise a particular spot on a particular day, so we do not.
Who April suits
First-timers, first of all. April is the month when the small, clean days start to outnumber the big ones, and the wetsuit means nobody cuts a session short from shivering. Improvers do best in the first half of the month, when a late pulse is more likely. A mixed-ability group of friends, one surfed and one not, gets a week that serves both.
If your trip is about the famous points at full size, April is a gamble, and we would rather say so: March is the safer month for that, and the winter proper safer still.
The crowd, and Easter
April has two halves. Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027, and the school holidays around it, which vary by country but mostly fall in the last days of March and the first half of April, make that fortnight the busiest of the spring on this coast: fuller line-ups at the learner spots and houses that book up earlier than the rest of the month. Our separate Easter surf camp guide has the dates and the practicalities. Two things to know now: decide early for a week in the Easter fortnight, and the price does not move. There is no holiday surcharge at The Pearl.
Once the holidays end, the crowd drops away. The second half of April is one of the quietest stretches of the year, with room in the line-ups, a village that is relaxed rather than busy, and the same spring waves. Our houses run at the usual 12 guests a week, mixed levels, and about 70% of our guests arrive alone.
What a week costs in April
There is no seasonal pricing at The Pearl. The week costs the same in April as in January or October, Easter included.
| Week | Dorm | Twin | Double | Private |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Surf Reset, surf only, 7 days | €420 | €450 | €510 | €550 |
| The Full Reset, surf + daily yoga (5 sessions in a 7-day week), 7 days | €510 | €550 | €610 | €630 |

Not included: flights, insurance and personal spending. A €100 deposit per guest holds your spot, with a full refund up to 30 days before arrival, and free date changes 30 or more days out.
Shorter trips of 3 to 5 nights run from €225 (dorm) on The Quick Escape; on that package the airport transfer is an add-on at €30 one way.
March, April or May?
Three months, one slow turn of the season. March is the last of the winter run: regular swell, the points still working on the good pulses, water about 17°C and the 4/3 wetsuit, with the first glassy days in between. April is the handover: the pulses thin out, the glassy days take over, the water edges up to 17 to 18°C and the 3/2 comes out for most of the month. May is the quietest and most beginner-friendly month before summer: days about 25°C, nights about 15°C, water about 18 to 19°C, a 3/2 throughout, and small, clean, consistent surf with room in the line-ups.
Pick March if you want to see the winter waves and do not mind a colder sea. Pick April for a bit of both, booking early for the Easter fortnight or coming after it. Pick May if the whole point is to learn, in peace, in the warmest water the spring offers. Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from about 8 February to about 9 March, so it does not touch April or May. After May the coast runs on summer swell, smaller and warmer again; the other shoulder of the year, October, has warmer water and the first autumn swells.
What to pack for April
The wetsuit and the board are on the house, 3/2 or 4/3 as the water decides. Beyond that: a warm layer for 13°C nights, a windproof jacket for the rooftop, sunscreen, because April sun at midday is stronger than it feels from Europe, swimwear for under the suit, and flip-flops.
Getting here
Pickup from Agadir Al Massira airport, about 40 minutes away, is included on the week packages. The week runs 7 days, 6 nights, and you can arrive on any day of the week; the retreat does not run on fixed start dates. A day at The Pearl shows how the hours fall, and the FAQ covers the rest.
Ready for April? The Surf Reset if the waves are the point, The Full Reset if you want daily yoga on the rooftop as well. Dates are on the booking page.
Quick answers
- Is April a good month to surf in Morocco?
- Yes, and for a first week it is one of the best. The winter swell tapers through the month and spring brings smaller, cleaner, more consistent days with light morning winds. Improvers still get the odd late pulse, more often early in the month.
- How warm is Morocco in April?
- Days about 23°C, nights about 13°C, water about 17 to 18°C, as Agadir coast averages rather than a forecast. The sea is still cool, so you surf in a wetsuit.
- Do I need a wetsuit in April?
- Yes. A 3/2 does the job for most of the month; early in April the coach may hand you a 4/3 instead. Both are included with the week.
- Is Easter busy?
- It is the busiest fortnight of the spring. Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027 and the school holidays around it run into the first half of April, so book early for those weeks. Prices do not change; there is no holiday surcharge. Our Easter guide has the details.
- Is April good for beginners?
- Yes. Smaller, cleaner waves mean more attempts per session, and coaching happens on the sandy beach breaks with two hours coached and two hours supervised every day. The second half of the month adds quiet line-ups to that.
- Are the April dates open?
- Yes. Choose a week on the booking page. A €100 deposit per guest holds it, refundable in full up to 30 days before arrival, with free date changes 30 or more days out.
